Modern Beauty Table Runner?... Check!

A friend of mine, who was a smoker, once told me that when she had to wait a long time for her food when she went to a restaurant, all she had to do was light up a cigarette and then her meal would show up! Well, now I've been wondering if the same theory applies to other things too... even quilting?!? Last week, I poured out my frustrations about having to wait an insanely long time for my batting... and then after I had posted about it, it came! (no worries, it's not a planned topic to make my sewing supplies come faster... although if I thought it would help, it really would be tempting!) So, with batting now on hand, I'm hitting my to-do list hard!

Since I don't usually make things with myself in mind, I decided it was high time to add a few touches around the house. After making my first Facing East block, and then later repeating the color combination for my "Buttoned Up" pillow, I realized how much the color combo appealed to me, and knew I wanted to repeat it. For the quilting, since the design has so many curved elements, it seemed natural to me that the wavy lines would be a nice compliment. (a first for me and a step away from straight line quilting!)

When I first saw this "Wordfind" fabric from Melody's Miller's playful collection, I have to admit that I was not that impressed... that is until I saw it in person! If you would try to nail me down to just one shade of pink, (and that's a hard one for me) this would be it!... it's just so darn juicy!

I love adding an extra little detail somewhere in a project to look for like a Where's Waldo element, and a few snippits in the binding gives it just the touch!

So this first finish of 2016 has landed on our front entryway table, and I'm so pleased to have something that I've made greet guests as soon as they come in

  1. That's a gorgeous table runner, adding things to the home is such a great feeling. I have a piece of furniture that's awaiting a coat of paint then it will live in our hallway and I was thinking it needs a runner too!

  4. Beautiful!! It goes perfectly there :-)
I usually add a little pop to my bindings, but I haven't to the past 2 - the OBW definitely didn;t call for it, and I didn't think the other one did either (my QAYG - which I will be able to post about next week, since it will FINALLY be in the hands of its new owner :-) but now I am second-guessing myself, and wishing I'd have added a little somethin'. Ah well...
I'm so glad your packages arrived :-) I was thinking of your predicament just last night, as I was digging through my snaps to find just the right color for my project. I was grateful to *not* have to wait for supplies....

  6. This is lovely - I tried curved quilting on a pillow, ended up undoing it all and going for straight line quilting. One day ....

  7. I wondered when I seen your beautiful new runner on IG... But I thought perhaps you found a scrap of batting somewhere. Love that wavy quilting and the pops of colour in the binding. Really brightens up the room!

  9. What a gorgeous table runner. I've become a big fan of wavy quilting lately. It adds lovely movement and softness to designs and works wonderfully in your runner. I love the colour combinations too. I actually purchased some fabrics from Moda's Birds and Berries fabric line a few years back because they had that same combination. I've just rediscovered them in my stash and look forward to sewing with them sooner rather than later.

  12. Just love the block - if I didn't mind applique that much, I might make a quilt out of it. Your runner is just great and I love the spark in the binding! Looking forward to be greeted by it :)
