Farm Girl Vintage Finish!

Finishing my Farm Girl Vintage quilt means that I get to check the last thing of my quarterly goals list for the 2016 Finish-A-Long. When I first started this, the blocks actually came together pretty quickly, but waiting for sashing fabric meant getting pushed to the backburner... then there was, of course, the issue of how to quilt it?

I really had to think long and hard about how I wanted to quilt this since this was my first border quilt, and I only quilt with my walking foot. I had originally thought about an all over pattern, but decided that it was not the best solution for this quilt. I eventually ended up quilting in the ditch around each motif, then addressed each block individually. (yup... that was a whole lot of turning under the machine!) Since each block is quilted differently, I thought it would be fun to also share them individually.

Fresh Pears Block: (My first block and still one of my favorites in this quilt)

Scrappy Strawberry Block:

Welcome Block: (I loved the way this block looked after I had made the first one that I ended up making two for this quilt! This goes into the blocks-to-repeat category for me!)

Patchwork Pumpkin Block:

Crops Block: (This is another favorite block... not necessarily to sew, but the end result)

Baking Day Block:

Kettle's On! Block:

Farmhouse Block: (When I first saw this block, I knew Cori Dantini's "The Makers" needed to be in the windows happily working away)

Spring Star Block:

Pie Cherries Block:

 Welcome Block:

Canning Season Block:

Quilt pattern: Various blocks from "Farm Girl Vintage" book by Lori Holt
Started: August 2015
Fabrics: Alison Glass, Cotton & Steel, Basic Grey Grunge yellow border, and selected scraps from stash. Low volume background fabrics.

  4. That is a beautiful quilt. Are most of the patterns paper pieced or not? I'm glad I found you on Sew Fresh Quilts Let's Be Social.

  7. Hi Anne,

I just adore the blocks from the Farm Girl Vintage book… they are so much fun to make! Actually none of the blocks are paper pieced, but simply traditional piecing. I’m a big fan of paper piecing, so it would have been a little easier if they were!

Oh, how nice… I’ve “meet” so many people on Let’s Bee Social. Thanks for stopping by!

    Greetings from Germany!

  8. Your quilting is fabulous. Is it all done with a walking foot. I love flowers and petals you have used in some of them. Maybe I'll be brave and try something other than straight lines next time I quilt something.

  10. Allison ~ it's fantastic!!!! Oh, do I hear you on the turning.... I think the farmhouse block is my favorite (it's hard to be positive though with so many great choices...)

  11. Wow! Thanks for sharing the quilting on each block. I find this part hard to decide on my quilts. The grid on the strawberry reminds me of the grid pattern all those itty bitty surface seeds make. I like the seed in the pear interior. Nice touch. I love, love, love the wavy lines on the baking block. The ridges on the canning jars are so appropriate. You put a lot of thought into this and it shows. Great job! I can't decide if my favorite block is the pumpkin or the pear. Oh, but wait. I do love the baking block. See? They all scream out for attention. Congrats on the finish.

  14. I love this!!! I got the book for Christmas and the Welcome block is the only one I have done so far. Great job finishing! The quilting does look like it took a long time - it is hard on sampler quilts like this! Great job!!!
